The Free State of Saxony is situated in the east of the Federal Republic of Germany, between the Neiße and the Pleiße. Saxony has a territory of 18.414 square kilometres. Saxony‘s neighbours are: to the north: Brandenburg to the northwest: Saxony-Anhalt to the west: the Free State of Thuringia to the southwest: the Free State of Bavaria to the east: Poland and to the southeast: the Czech Republic
